| Well the time came today when i had to admit my mum into a nursing home The last few months have been really hard and alot of thought went into the decision we ve made I know she will be happier and much better off where she is now but i still feel like s**t We managed to get her into a really nice place that is right on Cannock Chase with the lounge area directly looking onto the Chase They get the deer coming right up close which all the residents love They also have two resident cats who have the run of the place which is brilliant because one of the main reasons for the guilt is the fact mum will be losing her dog Well not losing her altogether she is going to live with my brother and will be visiting frequently once mum has settled in They even arranged for one of the cats to be in her room when we arrived which really made her happy Shes made 4 friends already and was more chatty than ive seen her in months The chef even came out and introduced himself and was asking her what food she likes We toured all the local homes and this one was so friendly and homely and we feel mum will get the personal care she needs and have a lot better quality of life here The gardens are lovely aswell and filled with lovely bird feeders to encourage the wildlife They get foxes and loads of squirrels Mum will love that shes animal mad She needs to settle for a few days before we visit so that we dont upset her so it will be a stressful few days especially as im going down to Bristol on Saturday for my mother in laws surprise 80th birthday party so wont be able to visit until Sunday My brothers will be visiting on Saturday im praying she settles ok so i can stop stressing about it | |

| Aww Bren really feel for ya hun. Seeing someone you love so much loose their independence is really hard. I've worked in nursing homes for years and I'm sure from what you have described the home sounds lovely. Your mum sounds to of settled in well and having the animals around here too will help take her attention. You shouldnt feel so bad you have made an informed decision which is the right one for all concerned. You would never forgive yourself if you were looking after her and something happened. It is a stressful thing to do looking after a relative. Time will heal hun You have helped your mum yourself and family in the longterm | |

| Aww Bren From what you have said in the past on how things were with your mother, I feel you have done the right thing no more worrying if anyone is trying to scam her out of money no more worrying if she has got up in the night and god knows what could happen then knowing medical attention will be sought immediately if needed knowing she is somewhere safe, nice views, good company and pets sounds like you have found the perfect solution all round hun She isn't far from you and you can still spend as much time with her as you did before, knowing that she is safe, sound and cared for You always did so much to try and make sure she was OK but with the worry of what may happen when you had to go to work etc, now you don't have to worry all the time | |

| You know it's the right decision for your mum Hun, doesn't make the guilt any less on your part though When she's settled in and you've got used to the idea, you'll all be happier and a lot less stressed Keep us updated on how she's getting on Hun | |

| Been to visit this afternoon and mum is causing chaos already shes opened the fire doors twice already nosing about Then my brother turns up and does the same wanting to take her out for a walk Obviously the alarm goes off in the office as soon as the doors are open to alert the staff My mum was a bit upset about it when she was told off initially but was giggling about it to me later saying she was trying to hide when the alarm went off so they wouldnt know it was her it was just like listening to a child She seemed happy enough but she thinks shes been there for weeks already telling me that she is fine and that people are more talkative now than they were three weeks ago shes only been in there since Thursday She looked nice and clean has been eating and sleeping well and seemed very settled so she continues to enjoy being there Both the cats are in trouble with the staff they caught a partridge each today and brought them in The carer in charge was not amused so the cats were banished to the garden for the rest of the day My mums dog Roxy is doing great aswell having a brilliant time putting my brothers male dog Casper in his place Shes top dog already | |
