A few weeks ago i talked to our local Vet about bloat, because i wanted
to know the signs what to avoid and what to do. The vet told me there
was not much to do about it, some dogs got it either way. I asked me
how many of the dogs with bloat survived at their office last year, he
said one.. and he wouldn't tell me how many died.
But the reason they died was because they came in to late, if i call the vet here it
will take them at least one hour before their at the office.
He told me if Lexus got it i could puncture his stomach to get the gas out,
while waiting for the vet to arrive.. it would give him a better chance
to survive..
Our vets are educated on cows and horses, so they don't
know enough about dogs IMO, it's the reason why i don't use them unless
i have to.
The vets there just hates me, because i always ask questions they
can't answer. and the one i blame for Keiko's death, isn't even coming
close to me or Lexus.
If she's on call and something happens to
Lexus, i got the private number for the vet from Netherland and he'll
come in if needed.
To find a good Norwegian site about bloat is
really hard, and everyone says different things. I've been told to soak
Lexus kibble, feed him twice a day, not to raise his food bowl, not to
walk him 2 hours before and 2 hours after a meal. not to give him
rawhide or pig ears and make sure he doesn't eat to fast ( this is not
a problem, i think he's the slowest eating dog in the world) and not to
give him bones at all ( I'm still giving him raw bones tho, because i
read somewhere that those should be safe.)
The vet said that
since i knew so much about bloat, and knew what to look for, and the
vets office is just over the road from our house, Lexus chances are
much better than the other dogs they get in. the vet we'll be calling
lives just 10 minutes from his office
when i got home from the vet i started to check online
about bloat, and found a Emergency First Aid kit for Bloat, since then
I've been trying to find a place here in Norway to order it from, but
no one even know what it is.
I've now decided to make one myself, with a little help from some of the people driving the ambulance
