Marleys Weight

We have been for Marleys worming tablet today and have had Marley weighed, this is the first time since he put his weight back on after he was poisoned and he was 39.5kgs, since then we have changed his food to Arden Grange which he is enjoying and he has been having Tuna in Sunflower oil,( his coat is soft and shiney) he doesnt have a mountain of treats but he has tipped the scales at 41.8kgs today!! :2431: Neil will not be happy when we next go to see him :nhy: :nhy: as he has said he would like us to keep him around or under the 40kgs. His Dad was 45kgs. I look at Shelleys Fred and think they look the same but Marleys much heavier!
What do you guys think, we dont think Marley looks fat, he gets plenty of exercise I weigh his food religiously, you've seen his pics and videos do you think I need to cut him down so he loses a couple of Kgs.

I've just been told to keep Maggie at about the weight she is now Jude. The vets words were "shes about finished growing so dont allow her to put on much more weight. Shes ideal as she is.

Maggie is 8 months old and will grow until shes about three years old. She is 33 kilos and her ideal weight is between 45-54 kilos, so this vet was wrong on weight. Vets dont always take into account all the variables, ie larger parents. I just looked at the ideal size for a GSD and a male should be between 30-40 kilos. Not all dogs stay in this range though, some will be smaller, some bigger, without being fat or thin.

I think, if Marleys isnt fat, then he isnt overweight no matter how much he weighs and he looks perfectly fine in pictures. His weight needs to match his body size too :love:

i think marley looks perfect Judes as you said he gets the excersise he's eating well he's very healthy i wouldnt worry about him at all especially after him being so poorly, to look at him he's an image of perfection imo :love:

awwww thanks guys, I know Im a worrier!!!! I just want whats best for him I know if he carries excess weight its bad for his hips but he's looking the best he has done in a while. :love: :love:

can u feel his ribs under his fur? so long as u can feel them n not see them then hes not too fat or too skinny

Last time i got indie weighed he was 48kg i know its a lot
but he is a very big boy,big bone structure,he is not over fed he
gets plenty of exercise and he is lean.

going by his pictures and videos jude, i would say he looks absolutely fine... like you say, he gets plenty of exercise, you weigh his food for him, and hes looking lovely.... i wouldnt panic hun... :love:

aaww jude , marley always looks really well dont worry. vets like facts and figures. As long as he has a waistline he will be fine. Just enjoy him Jude. :love: :love: :love:
