| Thought I would post in here as I havent a clue whats got into Marley. I know I keep saying it but he has definitely changed since being neutered. last night he kept going for our lamp in the lounge, running up to it nosing the lampshade, growling, barking, tail out, hair standing on end no matter how much we brought him away he went back to it. The lamp is not new its been there since before he arrived Then after that we went to bed around 10.30 ish, Marley has always slept in the kitchen/utility room, he's never made a sound, never bothered us or woke us but last night we could hear him jumping up at the door scratching and crying this went on until 2.30 til Ed got up and Marley came running upstairs as though something was chasing him! he's never been allowed to sleep in our room but Ed had to be up at 5am, not that we got any sleep with him in the room. Any ideas apart from him being a total naughty boy!!!! | |

| Awww hopefully you'll get some advice Jude. I dont know whats up with him, the only thing I can think of is his hormones settling after his op? I know that can take a few months? If its that, then it shouldnt last too long I wouldnt think. Anything else, I dont know but good luck xx | |

| He was clawing at thekitchen door again last night for about an hour but I didnt get up. Actually Ed has just reminded me he was attacked on the beach on Saturday by a GSD and a mongrel while the owners didnt bat an eyelid til Ed ran over toMarley and yelled at them to get their dogs. Marley tried 3 times to get away and everytime they got him down. i wonder if this has unsettled him as he was very subdued when he came home and he hasnt really eaten since then | |

Yeah I think it's definately that then, Jude... Maybe the lamp or whatever it is reminds him of the dogs or something? And he may be afraid now of being on his own for a little while.. |

| o dear jude poor Marley, this has nothing to do with his castration. You are going to have a bit of hard work ahead of you Jude. Marley may have seemed ok when your brought him home after that fight but he will be truamitised (sp) and this will be why hes behaving this way, he will want your company at least for a bit. Its a bit like shock comming out like if two people got hold of you he will be worried. you are going to have to work him through it. He will remember those dogs and he could get very worrid about dogs or become very defensive. It was also two dogs working like a pack keep him away from dogs like that for as long as you can. They must be bad dogs cause Marley is done so they would have a go at anything. Unfortunatly Marley may well give off his fear now. I always think its the worst thing to happen to a young dog. These other people have no idea what damage their dogs do. With the lamp Jude hes just getting himself worrid about things and doesnt know how to handle it . The best thing to do is touch the lamp, switch it of and on and move it around if possible. You will sort it Jude but thats why i think he seems a pain at the mo to you. Bear with him Jude and let me know how he is when he sees another dog. Dont let him go to any strange dogs though you dont want him to get had again. Hope this helps Jude, hard to explain everything.    | |

| yea agree with manto as this may change him,i would keep him away from dogs for a bit as he may attack them if he remembers what happened he will not want it to happen again so he may make the first move the next time, just keep a close eye on him and reintroduce him to a friends dog you can trust just to see how he reacts, alot of young dogs can be affected by this and never trust another dog again | |

| awww jude poor you poor marley..tilly had a few crazy spats like that after she had the pups, scared me to death, anyway the vet put it down to hormone changes and prescribed a dose of calcium.. too dear off him so i went to the health shop and bought some calcium tabs, i gave her 1 in morning and 1 at night and it worked... so i was thinking marley could have hormone changes because he's been nuetered, tilly has had 1 or 2 spats of recklessness since and a dose of calcium always seems to work...xxxx | |

| All very interesting stuff wriiten here.
My Aussie was attacked just as her second season was approaching, then she had another 2 more aggressive lunges at her within a fortnight. She turned from being the most happy to see everyone/everything dog into a raving lunatic, it became so bad I was ashamed taking her out, And funnily enough, she started acting like Marley with the lamp, but in her case it was the poofee(sp)
I can see now from what Rosemary and Kenny are saying that I should have kept her away from other dogs unless I knew and trusted them, but I was told to get her straight back out there with her and not make an issue out of it, looks like I did it all wrong.
Anyway, it took a lot of work, but I can happily say she is 85% there now.
Also just want to support Jude here, it is worrying when your dog starts to act like this, when Misty was having her strange behaviour with the poofee, it was scarey stuff, I even started looking into epilepsy, that's how strange she became.

| We had another really bad night with Marley last night, he started at 1am this morning and we had to get up to him and we managed to get him settled by putting him in his crate but for the first time ever we closed the door. His stomach was rumbling like mad last night yet he wouldnt touch his food, he's hardly eaten a thing since Sunday, I think hes had about 2 small tins of tuna and a handful of biscuits. He is so jumpy and its so sad to see. I have put an appointment on with Neil our vet for Friday at 5pm just to for him to look him over and make sure theres nothing physically wrong with him. He is such a loving boy I really hate to see him like this. Many Thanks for all your support and advice and honesty its much appreciated    | |

| bloody hell jude i agree with wat rosemary has said hes prob unsettled from this BUT do not dwell on it for his sake liek rosemary has said these dogs must have a go at anything
with the feeding i wouldnt fuss i would actually not feed him for a day so he is actually hungry as you could cause more issue and make him fussy if you try and feed him things he likes
my lab was attacked and as a gundog you teach them to ignore other dogs and never fight back but he did protect himself and my god he became soooo defencive of staffies after that took a LOT of work to sort him luckly you dont see many staffies out working lol
with the lamp it could also be a attention thing my pup does it to our uplighter he did it as a pup smacked into it and then actually attacked it i laughed and pulled him off so he now remebers that so if he does it i walk over and claim the lamp and hes fine now ke used to lick the fire i have very odd dogs lol
with the crying again hes learned you come *nothing you can do there* so one thing i would do is during the day get him used to being seperated again dont let him follow you you go to make a cuppa shut the door after you, my lab became like this after his attack so i did this i also would scatter food as i left the room to show it was fun wen i left and this worked also
as paddy wouldnt move from the front door if i went out and would stay there for hrs wouldnt wee or move an inch *this i think was also due to my illness he always watched me incase i passed out or anything lol*
like has been said its not gonna be easy at all but we are here to help its hard as we cannot see the problem

I have spoken to Neil and he wants to see him tonight so we are there at 5.30. Will let you know what he says. many thanks for all your help it is much appreciated. i truly think the behaviour problem is because of the fireworks and being attacked. i just want my little lad back to normal.

| Well we ended up at the Vets at 4.30. We came home from work tonight and the kitchen was covered in bloody watery poo and a very poorly Marley who couldnt even be bothered to wag his tail. Ed took him straight out like we always do and got no further than the end of the street and Marley started vomiting and black pooh like tar coming out of him so we rang Neil and he said to take him straight up.
Marley has lost 2.5kgs in 3 days,Neil gave him a good examination and we told Neil basically everything that I put in my original post and no he's not just being a naughty boy he is very traumatised ( like Rosemary and Farah both said) from his neutering to fireworks to guests who were horrible to him to fireworks again to being attacked twice by dogs this week to attacking the lampshade and the scratching on th edoor through the night etc. he has stopped eating has had an acid build up and with being so stressed its just exploded today, the acid will be causing the sickness and the blood.
He has given Marley an anti sickness injection, an antacid injection a course of antacid tablets and a DAP collar. He gave him the collar instead of the plug in, it gives off pheramones (sp) and should help to calm him down and be less stressed and traumatised. He didnt want to give him pills for it. He reckons a couple of months with the collar we should see a huge improvement in his confidence.
We have to starve him tonight and start him off on light food tomorrow and he should soon start to pick up
He's just lying on the sofa dozing but looking really poorly bless him. Ed has rang his boss and taken tomorrow off work, its 1 week in 3 Marley is left all day and its just a shame its been this week, he's also sleeping downstairs with him tonight.
Thank you all for your concern for Marley and the support you have given me this week You really are the best
