Rottweiler and dead puppies found..http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/8304569.stmA female dog has been found at a Clackmannanshire beauty spot along with her four dead Rottweiler puppies. The
Scottish SPCA said a member of the public spotted the newborn pups
lying in a shallow burn near Castle Hill Reservoir at Yetts o'
Muckhart. The mother was said to have been alive but in "great distress" when she was found nearby at Dunning Glen on Friday 9 October. The charity has appealed for anyone with information to contact them. The
Scottish SPCA said it had responded to a spate of dog abandonments over
the summer months, with large breeds in particular among the most
commonly abandoned. The latest incident followed two separate
litters of large-breed puppies that were found dumped in Fife and
Clackmannanshire in recent weeks.
'Whole family'The
mother dog is now being cared for at the charity's Animal Rescue and
Rehoming Centre at Balerno in Edinburgh, where staff have named her
Lacey. A post mortem will be carried out on the puppies to establish the cause of death. Mike
Flynn from the Scottish SPCA said: "We can't be sure exactly how the
family came to be where they were found, but we are looking at a number
of different scenarios. "It may be that the mother has escaped
from home and given birth outdoors or it's possible that she was stolen
and then dumped after she gave birth. "There is also a good chance that someone has abandoned the whole family because they cannot or do not want to care for them. "Whatever
the reason, four puppies are now dead and the mother has suffered
considerably as a result so we are very keen to find out what has
happened." Abandoning an animal is an offence that carries penalties of up to six months in prison, a £5,000 fine or both.
