| what are the hipscores at the back of him, are his scores even on both sides, sometimes trauma can cause it to be higher on 1 side, i personally wouldn't use a dog with hipscore over 12 but that is my personal opinion | |

| The average score apparantley is 19 so ideally your looking at something below that, the lower the better.20 sounds alarm bells for me. He is a lovely looking dog but health must come before looks. Think i will stick to my original choice of stud, his hips are 10. I will post a pic of him when i find it,lol. | |

| yes DJD could cause that but still if it was me i wouldnt even think about it hun he may throw pups with low scores but IMO is it worth the risk ?? i was going to stud Rostam, but i can tell you know if he scored 20 i would have him castrated That is just disgusting IMO. a malis highest score is 8 and there is a reason for that, we dont use dogs with high socres any that does have high scores gets castrated and not used. you know what your doing hun so im sure you will make the best dessission he may have great clour and be good in the show ring but his scores speak for himself dont they, whats his elbow score? his bloods came back ok ? | |

| Jan u have to remember the score is out of 100. Fazza most breeders will not use a dog with score above current average for stud. at present 19.(bitch or dog)
Fazza the difference with malis and gsd is there is at least 5 times as many gsds hip scored yearly thats why the average is higher until the kc make hip scoring compulsery that will not change. I get the breeb supplement each quarter which list all score for working and pastrol breeds, hips elbows, eyes and any other health check that breeder has done (not compulsery with kc) and some scores come back in 70-80s for hips as long as people keep breeding from unscored stock the average will not come down
Karen the KC DONT HAVE A LIMIT FOR HIPS
the breed average at present is 19 Its the gsd Breed council that sets the limits for member clubs but this does not stop non members from breeding from scores above this.

| the kc continue to go on about health issues within the gsd as the real reason for the withdrawls of cc in 2012 which but this is not the case. The gsd partnership is currently pushing to adopt the following. all gsds entered at a kc show must have the following hip scored (below average) elbows, heammo clear, etc this way only dogs who have been health checked can be made up to champion the kc have refused this. thats the reason the KC have turned on the gsds . the will not adopt the health checks as an entry to a kc show so why go on about health issues | |

| yes i agree kenny i mean working malis from overseas my lad isnt from british bred dogs as i dont buy from show bred dogs and mots of working malis are IMP that are starting the lines over here not british ones.
but just because more GSD's get scored ect shouldnt mean the ave hip score should be high. the only way to get better standards in health ect is to accept nothing less then perfect really isnt it and 20 is far from it IMO.
just because a dog looks good and does well in the ring and has nice colour but high scores should it really be used ??
this is just my opinion as to me as a working person bad hips no dog....

| Hi My take on it... Hips are one part of the dog, what are his siblings scores, Sire and Dam, what has the family produced regarding good hips, If this male has everything to offer your female (Elbows,Character) and comes from a family of good hips I would do the mating, If my female also had a good family background for hips.
One dog comes to mind with a 22 score Ch Lindanvale Vegas, (there is more) the dog ended up being a very good hip producer and a superb producer of breed type. this is jmop.

and i dont think Summer is the easiest bitch to mate. That always is a problem, a young inexperianced male, you said in another thread you were thinking of Lauser, he is a proven stud and a good one at that takes no s*** from the females, but the risk here is longcoats, dont know if that will be a problem for you. I love them but if you are looking for the ring you can bet the best will be a longcoat they always are lol

| Yeah Joyce, although Rocky was my first choice i am going to use Lauser Long coats wont be a problem as a lot of people are asking me for l/c now. Will have to see if we get any l/c in the litter as i'm not sure if Summer carries the L/c gene. | |
