Thanks everyone, hes very fat at the moment now tho as hes had a problem with a lump in his mouth so ive not been able to ride :sadd:

He does look somewhat rotund!

what has caused the lump in his mouth steffie? is his bit too small or pinching him. maybe you should get a vet to look at him.

Or teeth? Has he had them looked at recently?

He looks slim in these pics compared to what he was, when i got him he was huge, when walking into the stable he's belly used to touch each side of the doorway :2431: hes used to look really strange, like a shetland ponys head on a shire :eqwr: I'll try and dig out a photo

Its like a small red growth. He has the dentist every 6 months. I had the dentist and the vet out to look at it and both are a bit baffled by it, its not an abcess, theres not anything in it, theres no puss oozing out , its reminds me of a blood blister, its next to his canine(?) tooth
Both the vet and the dentist said to keep bathing it with salt water as there is a small opening where an infection could grow. Dentist said its nothing really to worry about, its a growth, it could even be there for the rest of his life. In 3-4 weeks now it hasnt got worse, but then hasnt got better, vet said if its still there in a few weeks they will cut it off, she would like to send it off for testing but the dentist said not to bother getting it sent off, which i cant afford anyway. Its not hurting or bothering him, only bothers him when im trying to bathe it and hes trying to bite my fingers
So £75 later im still not 100% sure what it is :san54:

Yes he was a grass livery and wasnt stabled for a few years :eqwr: with feed, and hay put out and no exercise other than a walk round the block once a month.
It took years to get the weight off, altho it was delayed by twats giving him feed when he was on his starvation diet when he got laminates

There must be 1000s of ponies out there who have had laminitis at some time or another.

Did you say this lump stops you riding him?

I thought it did yea as i rode him 2 days before i discovered the lump and he kept rearing with me which is something he never and has never done in the 10 years ive had him.
I kept him off work till the vet and dentist had been only light lunging as ive been so busy lately. But i tacked him up today to lunge and have a ride and give my nephew a lesson and he was fine, so ive got to crack on with getting him fit as im doing a jumping at a show next month.
