Better safe than sorry

We took four horses & two ponies up to a friends new supersize arena yesterday for schooling.

One of the ponies is only three and recently broken. On top of that he was only cut 3 months ago. Before that he was a bit of a monster but he quietened down almost immediately it seemed.

The girl who rides him is just 6 but knows no fear. As it was his first trip away from the yard we decided that it might be safer to put Chloe on him first just in case he was a bit hyper.

The minute her bum touched the saddle he threw himself sideways onto the floor. Luckily Chloe was thrown clear so she got up, dusted herself off and got back on him. He then reared and leapt forwards. As he hit the floor all four legs buckled under him and he jumped up again and shot off around the arena with Chloe (somehow!!) still on his back. As soon as she got control of him he reared straight up again, came dowm and threw an almighty buck but still Chloe sat it.

At that point he shook himself and then walked forward and never put another foot wrong for the rest of the session!!

We all looked at the little girl and she said very loudly 'Phew. Glad I wasnt on the bloody thing!!'

Nah!! Chloe thought it was hilarious. She's sat on much worse than that. Her last job with horses was schooling problem horses for a woman who couldnt do it anymore cos she'd broken her back twice!

I've stopped worrying about her too much tbh. I've taken her to hospital so many times it sort of goes with the territory :2431:

The most amazing thing for me was not that Chloe stayed on it but that, after all that, the little girl was more than happy to get on him herself and got quite snotty when Chloe insisted on leading her for the first few minutes!! :2431:
