| Subject: Caius' recent behaviour any ideas ......... Tue Dec 18, 2012 9:31 pm | |
| Ladies can I please rack your brains? Caius has always had a problem with bikes and things with wheels. Up until recently he's been great while out walking. When he was younger he was lunged at by a smaller dog in training classes so he dislikes small dogs and will bark at them when on lead if we pass one.He was until very recently fine with most dogs but whilst talking with a friend who owns a rescue dog a golden lab snapped at him from behind. Ever since this incident Caius just pricks his ears puts his heckles up lunges and barks at other dogs. I was finding initially that the leave command was helping. He has now developed this behaviour now with screaming children and children who run or scuttle away and panic when they see him. Living in a highly populated Muslim area you can perhaps see where I am coming from? Well today was the last straw..... While out walking Theban n Caius together( still a long way to go but getting there) a man and his daughter were walking quietly towards us on the pavement. Theban didnt bat an eyelid while Caius ( looking back now) heckled up and lunged for the young girl as sdhe passed by him barking his head off. To say I was devastated was an under statement He has never done that before and I am gutted. He wears his dogmatic so thankfully we had control but it freaked me out as its so out of character. This afternoon I went out with ...... A water pistol to try n divert any unwanted and wrong behaviour what i am asking ladies is for more advise as to how I can tackle this problem he is developing. He is so lovely natured with our children n their friends I just cannot grasp his sudden change Please help....... | |

| suzie are you sure a child hasn't startled cauis or hit him in the past , seems strange that with all your children he did what he did, if he was mine i would firstly take him out by himself , any body passing you tell him to sit and look at you if he shows any interest in the people tell him firm no look at me , reward if he does what you ask, try not to let him get too close to people until you feel confidant and he is at ease with people passin bye, good luck with him | |

I totally agree with Sue Caius is never out of our sight when were out. If he's in the front garden and our children are playing on the street he runs up n down the garden barking at them but I don't let him out front for that reason AFAIK no child has hit or startled him but I cannot be 100% I just can't get my head round it. I used you approach this pm with the watch command and it helped so I am going to continue with your advise thanks ladies I'll keep you posted on our progress This am when we went out I was a nervous wreck but using the watch command really helped it diverted his attention he got quite a few treats lol My furbabies have all been sick today think they have this cold/virus that the kids have. | |

| hope they feel better soon, you say when the kids ar out and he is in the garden he runs up and down barking at them, maybe you should take him straight back in the house to let him know that NO BARKING is acceptable , maybe he thinks the brilliant game he is playing with your kids can also be played with other people when out on a walk | |

| Already done hun I avoid letting him out the front when the children are out for that very reason. He did brilliant this am with sit n watch I've lost my voice cos of a viral infection ( kids think its great ) so I thought it might of been more difficult but he picked up on my cues very quickly and was a star this am. Really loving this method | |
