Caius at vets

Took Caius to vets yesterday as he had been scratching around his eye. So much so that some of his fur has been rubbed off. When she examined him she said she thought it might be a mite that was causing him to scratch or possibly an allergy to something. Anyways gave us some drops just incase its mites if no better he is to go back in a week for allergy tests.
What she did recommend was a good bathing routine

Can any of you recommend anything to use? J know oatmeal shampoo is good but is there anything you peeps prefer?

Got him weighed as well while there he is massive 26.5kgs

I would recommend Aloe vera /oatmeal shampoo for him - i use this on molly and its brill.

He is fine in himself Judes just looks at ya with sad eyes other than that he is as nutty as ever

Thanks Lainee I'll try that one. His coat is looking really healthy and glossy it is just he is slightly bald around his left eye.

I've put a capful of collodial silver in his water as well to see if that will have any benefit - time will tell

He's a nut case Shell. He doesn't seem to be scratting as much and we've had no more blood around his eye from scratching. Still looks a little bald around it but I am sure it'll all come back. So far so good

I am suprised she recommended a good bathing routine, different if he was covered in shyte etc, mites can be picked up anywhere anytime, also all dogs like us have mites living on us, they don't affect us until, usually we become run down or pick up a strain from another dog/fox etc etc

Bryn has had this on his eye, no scratching just a bit of hair loss, vet thought he may of stuck his head in a bush/growth of grass or simialr that a fox had been in, they put the drops on the back of his neck and bingo it went, I personally think his may of come from his own natural mites, when he got run down and anxious when I had a load of family and dogs staying here for a week and he got depressed coz I couldn't spend the time with him that he was used to and his whole routine was upset as well.

It could also be an allergy, which I hope it's not, coz finding the thing he is allergic to is harder than clearing mites.

The main thing is you took him to the vets and are getting him treated hun, hopefully whatever it is troubling your boy will be cleared before long and he will be back to his beautiful self in no time.

funnily enuff I thought he might of scratched himself on a bush/growth thing when we go out cos I noticed a fresh drop of blood under his eye when I called him.When I mentioned it to Sue the other day(after the vets verdict) she thought it might of been fox mites. either way he is scratching less which is good.

I know this'll sound stupid but I felt really bad and guilty when I found out it was mites. I think it was because I felt i'd been neglecting him

No not negleting him at all hun, mites are just a part of life that do sometimes crop up, I felt bad as well when Bryn had his eye prob, coz he is a huge mummy's boy and doesn't take change very good at all but sometimes Suze we will never know what actually caused our babies get some stuff, the main thing I think is getting it sorted asap which you did

When you said about scratching his eye, that also could be a factor, Ellie is a sod, just like a JRT not a shih tzu at all lol, she is always into something and she got builders sand in her eye which caused a little ulcer, the vet put dye in her eye and could see it, the gave her drops and it soon went, these dogs will be the death of us

Thing is with foxes, they come into our gardens streets walking places etc and we cant tell so it can happen so easily

Just for the record, regarding bathing Bryn has never had a proper bath a) he is to big, b) he would go into panic mode he goes swimming if it's nice enough outside, obviously I brush him every day and wash an area of him if it's got stinky stuff on lol Hazel only gets bathed when she has rolled in fox poop and she hates it but it has to be done, Misty gets bathed whenever I think she could do with one and isn't to bad, Ellie gets bathed much more often coz she is always covered in some sort of shyte, messy little humbag

We have tonnes of foxes round here regularily strolling through the garden.Our lads get up at 4am for a milkround and they see them nearly everyday

Brogan gets bathed when he needs it and deffo not in winter cos I worry about his stiff joints and cos he's old I dont want to stress him out. He dont do baths
