| going off from my other thread about skyla being fat lol - http://www.dogtalk4us.com/dog-health-diet-and-grooming-f14/overweight-or-just-big-built-t7159.htm#113185 - is chicken fattening? skyla got half a chicken today, it was cooked so she only got half the meat and skin, skinned off the bones, blaze got the other half, she also had half a bowl (if that as she was sharin with the boys) of kibble and 1 and a half treats, is that ALOT? should she have only had the chicken and NOT the kibble, sum1 told me half a chicken would do their dog for the whole day and its ALOT to feed are they right? i didnt think half a small chicken from morrisons would be much ? | |

| The fattening part is the 'cooked' skin! I have always fed my chicken raw, that way they can get the whole bird. (uncooked - the bones are bendy. cooked - bones are dry and will splinter) I would just feed the chicken OR the complete diet. Not both. |

| Marley has 400gms dry food and kala slightly less,( shared between 2 meals) usually with a tablespoon of tuna in sunflower oil or little bit of chicken, they get 3 shape biscuits when I leave them to go to work and a dentastick at bedtime, they get a white hide chew every other day | |

| If I fed my dogs all that type of stuff, I'd be in the kennels dishing up food all day! They each get an 11inch bowl of complete working diet (I go through one and a half bags, 20kg in total, per day) The bowls are laid inside the individual kennels each morning and the dogs then have all day to 'graze', none of the shepherds gulp their food......The Hounds and Beagles are another item altogether! If I feel an individual dog needs a bit more I add a dollop of Cod Liver Oil (horsey stuff) I have to add charcoal to the Hounds to bring them to a 'normal' dog smell! They all get a large bone chew every second day for teeth (dentastix are useless as one chew and they are gone!) Once a month I get a load of chicken from my sister in law who is a Farmer and I just lob them whole into the runs for a treat. Same with the green tripe, which I keep in a bucket of water outside. The pups are all brought up on Royal Canin until 6 months then transfered onto the same as everyone else. |
