| tomorrow i start volunteer work at a local rescue place i heard about on sunday.. its run by a woman who also runs kennels cattery and stables she takes in dogs from the council and rehomes them since the RSPCA stopped taking in dogs.... its in chaddesden and i walk by it nearly every day with fred and never knew .... if i turn to the right instead of going straight on its a few more minutes out of my way... and i can take fred with me ... i will be taking the dogs out for walks... they get walked every day but not very far....so thats what i am there for, and anything else they want me to do... if theres any dog agressive dogs that i cant walk with fred, she said i can leave fred there quite safely and take the agressive dog out on its own, it will also do fred some good to go for walks with the friendly dogs!! i am really looking forward to it

| im going to fall in love over and over again :2431: ..... there was an advert in kennelgate for 8 pups found by the council... so i was being nosey and asked about them, thats when they told me about the rescue... i went a walk up there today with fred, but it was a really long driveway and i wasnt sure if there would be animals running free so i wrote the number down and rang up when i got home ... im not sure how often she will want me to go and help them ...but i can make myself available between 10am and 2pm weekdays and weekends if shes desperate ... its all experience and extra training for fred ...i might even get to do some temporary fostering while the OH is away on tour... he will never know | |

| cheers jude... im hoping theres no dogs i take a fancy too..... she says theyre all mainly cross breeds and staffys... as much as i like these dogs theyre not what i 'prefer' if you kwim(dont mean that to sound horrible).... her pure breeds get passed onto someone else, so its not likely i will be seeing many GSD's lol.... :2431: .... phew....i hear my OH say!!!! | |

| i am absolutely emotionally exhausted :2431: ... its heart breaking seeing those poor dogs its a very sad place, they have toys and warm blankets and friendly faces every now and again, but its not enough they all do such a great job there its actually a council pound that opened when the rspca shut down, the woman runs it aside from her stable's kennels and cattery.. all dogs get walked twice a day, but only for about 10mins at a time, the rest of the time theyre locked away i got to walk a little pup called lunar today, she was a mixture of staffy and several other things i think lol... she was so little and scrawny, all she needs is a warm home and a good dinner ... she was ever so bouncy and hard to control at first so i decided to leave fred behind in one of their kennels....he was not happy at all... he 'grumbled' at everyone who went near him lol.... when i got back from walking lunar, a council warden was waiting to take her to a rescue centre where she would hopefully be rehomed by the weekend.... it was really sad to think i wouldnt see her again.... i hope she's happy, at least she went for a lovely walk and got loads of treats :2431: theres a very boistorous young staffy that im going to take out tomorrow...he looks like he could do with tiring out lol....im going to see what fred will be like walking with him too, i dont think it will be fair to leave him behind in kennels again so soon .... im hoping he will get used to being left there so i can take the larger harder to handle dogs out as well!!... | |

| its very sad .... the dogs are mostly typical bull breeds that once looked the part but got too much too handle so have ended up there.... theres a lovely irish red setter(i think thats what its called) that looks really sad and could do with some tlc, i think i might ask them if i can give it a good brushing one day, smarten it up a bit ... theres also a little jack russel.... hes very quiet for a yappy dog .. then theres the ones that want to play and get your attention, and the ones that get to you are the ones that look at you with sad eyes ... theres only a few dogs there, she hasnt a lot of room..... some dogs she hides lol... if the deadline is up and the dog is going to be pts, she will take them and put them in her kennels or with her dogs and say theyve been rehomed :2431: i wish there was more people who went and walked them for an hour every now and again.... it would make a big difference | |

| i enquired today and the setter is actually a day boarder :2431: .... and was looking slightly more groomed than yesterday .... theres 4 day boarders there at the minute!.... theres a bull type dog in there called codi, who is very impressive looking, and his time is up at the end of the week, so he is to get new paperwork with a new identity lol and will remain in the pound for a while longer ... it took a large staffy x out today called mary, she doesnt actually know her name as she has it changed every few weeks so that she can remain in the pound and not be pts.... :2431: .... she was very hard to handle and absolutely exhausted me ... i only had her out for half an hour as the lead i had was all chain and was wayyyyy too long, this wrapped round my hand coupled with her pulling like a train was agony one of the staffys was at the vets today being neutered, he goes to a staffy rescue at the end of the week and has already got a new home :hi: .... fred was still a grumbly old man when i left him, but he was better than last time :2431: one of the work experience girls got in side the kennel with him and he was a gem and he never growled at any of the dogs as we walked past the kennels, he had a sniff and that was enough ... im not going in tomorrow, im too busy in the day, but i shall be back there on friday | |
