| ever since we thought kiera has DM ppl just say to me well they have wheelchairs for dog now so its not all bad, except when i tell these ppl i would never ever do that to kiera.
now i mean no offence to any one who would, my reasons for not is kiera is a working dog pure and simple she isnt the sort of dog who likes to lay around all day and go for one walk a day. shes also a very detremined strong minded dog, and it would be demeaning *sp*for me to do that to her.
my vet simon has said its prob the worst thing you could do for a dog like kiera, as i kept getting shocked faces off friends wen i told them this. her specialist says hes met a lot of dogs that use them he isnt for them really, and he said the same as me and simon where kiera is concerend.
me and simon have already agreed that if she becomes less mobile and happy then the time will be right to put her to sleep, im not going to wait till shes dragging her back end around my house. i want her to go happy, i dont want my last memorys of her to be of a dog who gets frustrated and sad because she cant jump or move well, i owe her much more then that. she is such a amazing dog to me a lil like a super dog lol and forever will she be.
my queston is what is your view on this.

| I,m not sure, I can't really say until I was in that position.
I am sure the age of the dog and the circumstances would influence my decision.
If Rory had an accident and became paralysed right now at the age of 4, I think I would do anything to keep him with me providing he was happy and comfortable.
who knows, I just can't say for sure!

| I don't honestly know hun Gazi's mate had a lab x collie, she was not that old and they woke up one morning to find her back end had gone, they went to the vets etc, she needed to be carried out and back in, for toileting and fresh air, she was made a little buggy but she wasn't happy and a fortnight later PTS, she was depressed and didn't understand I think a whole load of factors may have to be considered, for example, you see little dachies coping great with a set of wheels, but could a GSD?????? | |

| Our first GSD had CDRM & I discussed this very subject with my vet. There is no way I could watch my once active beautiful dog drag himself round on wheels. Its not natural & somewhat demeaning. After I said all this my vet said that personally he completely agreed with me but it had to be my decision. That said Max died of cancer before the CDRM really kicked in so I never had to make the decision. | |
