| Canine Immune Mediated Disease Awareness
Been doing a bit of digging after Sly's viist to the vets yesterday.
Just wondering if anybody has used Prednisolone in the past.
One of the reasons my OH made the decision to take him off it was because he said it was making him agressive. The vet said that this steriod doesnt do that. However when I looked on some of the other forums a number of people said their dogs had experienced mood changes, occasionally even leading them to growl at their owners. Sly never got that bad but then he took it out on Todd instead.
But they all went on to say that the drug is wonderful and works by suppressing the dog's immune system.
What worries me (apart from the aggression) is that some said it resulted in hair loss which is the very thing we are trying to control!! (That and the scratching)

| Sorry, I'm no use to this thread but didnt like to not say anything    One thing that does spring to mind though, I sometimes go on a bullmastiff forum and there are a couple of women on there who seem very knowledgeable with dog health/diet etc, dunno if its worth you posting on there? http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=bullmastiffforu | |

| from the little i have just read hun it can cause behaviour changes and also a lot of other issues if used long term such as
• Side effects seen in dogs include polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, poor haircoat, GI disturbance, diarrhea, vomiting, weight gain, GI ulceration, pancreatitis, lipidemia, elevated liver enzymes, diabetes mellitus, muscle wasting, and possible behavioral changes.

| The behaviour changes I can deal with. And as for things like liver damage his quality of life is pretty poor anyway.
Rather a short happy life than a long miserable one.
He looks very thin & poor compared to Nico but the vet says he is not underweight, although borderline. He eats just as much as Nico, if not more. I guess he could be just stressing the weight off?

| yea he could hun but it says it causes muscle wastage too so could be that too as i know ke looks out of condition now due to her DM as she has lost a LOT of muscle
i think you have to make the right desicion for you and him and lke you say his life is short anyway so rather short and happy then long and miserble
all the other sites i have been on have said the same hun regarding side effect
you could prob get the pills online cheaper too rather then from the vet
