| Yeah, it does sound like hes growling but when he actually does growl, its loads deeper and more menacing plus he has a whole diffferent body language. When he does it to Joe, hes always lying down on the sofa or floor and Joe stops to stroke him. He doesnt look menacing at all, just a bit uncomfortable. I think its a normal Rottie grumble, but he wont do it to us cos hes very timid and submissive whereas Joe, hes not timid with at all, hes like a normal puppy with Joe, other than growling if that makes sense lol Hes not in the least bit food aggressive now either, which is good Thanks for your replies, I'm still gonna be watching them loads but I feel alot better about him now     | |

| This is the thing Fazza, it may well be a breed trait but its not acceptable to us and will be corrected as we are doing. He is watched constantly too when Joe is about, more so than the girls, they are always watched but not as closely, if you know what I mean. But then, the balance is just right between them and Joe anyway.
I do feel better knowing its something they do though, it gives it the illusion of being a whole lot easier to manage lol

| yea i know wat you mean hun paddy would grumble at my sis and bro wen they would ask him to get off the sofa i just told them to get him off and then march him to bed and he still grumbles but it wont go further
but your doing everything right hun the scary thing about Rotts in my experiece with them same with malis is that they are not as vocal if a shep is gonna kick off it makes loads of noise and body laungage first rotts dont they kinda stop and dnt move or breath for a split second and then attack thats why IMO so may ppl get bit by them as they dont read that as them saying piss off lol

| I'm always more wary of a stiff, quiet dog than a noisy one There was a little mongrel outside the shop yesterday, he looked all scared and sorry for himself but if he caught you looking at him he stiffened up and stopped breathing. Joe wanted to say hello but I said we'll stay a few feet away and talk to him. The dog was fine with that but I'm convinced he would have snapped if we went near him. I can see why people would go over and fuss it though, it looked very sorry for itself Stan def has a "Go away from me" when he does his "noise" to Joe. He does get a firm no and quietens down. We normally wait another 30 secs to a minute, tell Joe to move away from him then about five mins later, give Joe a treat to give to Stan, but only if he sits for Joe first. Its a slow process but hes getting better in some ways. He plays ball nicely with Joe now and hes fine for ages. Its got worse when hes tired though so its swings and roundabouts at the minute. | |
