| Casper is my 11 year old rough collie, I inherited him from my mum in sept 2011.
he has taken a massive turn for the worse and I dont think I will have im for much longer.
Last october both him and Jack were on Metacam for their back legs, Claire the vet sugggested cartrophen injections, 4 each over a month, they cost a total of £200
Jack is a different dog, Casper has deroriated.
Claire came out to him againg yesterday and has said the injections are useless for him because there is now evidence that his nerves in his back are dying (some fancy name) and no cure
Casper keeps falling down, splaying his back legs, he just cant support himself, his back feet keep turning upside down and he can correct them, and he is swaying to and fro as he walks.
he manages to get about and doesn't seem in any pain but its breaking my heart watching him. he is fine and happy in himself, hungry as ever for food.
I have him on high dose of steroids, 2 nd day today, but I took him out and had to carry him back to the car.
I am thinking a hoist to get him up, and possible hydrotherapy, I dont want to lose him, in his head he's still a pup.
I,m just gutted, any advice guys?

| I am so sorry for you, but that is typically for collies. The collie from my sister had the same problems and died last year. She got a wheelchair, but that was only for 6 month. | |

| ... My sister was also with the doggy by a Physiotherapy ( is that the right english word), but they sayed the same, that it is a typically illness from collies and most collies will die with this problem.
I am very sorry for you to read that :-(
I think of you and your dog and wish you all the best.
I have to sleep now, because i feel not good. Good night! | |

| the steroids seem to be doing very little so I will wean him of them. the vets came round with a harness/sling tonight but it was too fiddly to get on.
anyway I have bought one one e-bay and some protective boots for his back paws
we are all flagged in the garden and Casper will only wee on the grass...problem, so I rang around some nearby suppliers of artificial grass, about 6 x 6 feet. I told a guy Caspers story and he was very moved and has offered it to me free, I will pick it up Monday
Casper is much the same, still happy, still hungry but oh so wobbly on his legs, my heart breaks watching him, but, for now, I will take the best care I can of him.
I know there is no cure, tomorrow I will ring a couple of hydro therapy pools I have highlighted, and Clare my vet said she will ring round some of her specilaist friends

| my stunning boy had a stroke this evening, the vet came out and helped him towards the bridge.
I am totally devasted, all his walking aids have been oredered and he will never get to use them. A nicer natured dog has never walked the earth, he came to me 18 months ago when my mum passed away, I always promised her I would love and take care of her dogs......
I hope he running and playing with her now
my heart is broke, but he had had enough, I have no recriminations, I adored him and he knew it, I held him while he passed and told him how much I loved him and always will __________________
