| i have a question ..as you know my tank problems are never ending, ive lost no end of fish and my OH is getting quite pissed off about it, he just wants a nice tank with fish swimming about... well weve just lost our last lot of fish, we have just the clam remaining now...
i thought i had done everything properly... i bought £30 pound worth of testing kits and tested for everything... and to my surprise it was all normal... i clean my filter in tank water.. i put the stuff in that gets rid of all the chlorine etc etc.... i do everything im supposed to, but they keep on fecking dying.... apart from getting a new tank and starting from scratch i dont know what to do :nhy: :nhy: :nhy:

| try snakes u dont need water just a tight lid :2431: u dont need a new tank but start again (tropical or coldwater)not both together. have u had to reseal any of the glass panels before? start by removing everything and clean tank(only some luke warm water) glean all gravel make sure water runs clear when washing gravel (only wash small amount and put into tank) that will keep u busy for a bit | |

| i did all that before kenny..... even took some plants and lessened the gravel to see if that helped..... :nhy: it didnt.... i used to keep fish for years and i never had this problem lol.... i got rid of the tropical and kept coldwater only cos i thought it would be easier.... ive never had so much hassle, im sure this tank is jinxed.... sometimes it looks like theres a film on top of the water, with a similar effect to an oil slick, obvioulsy not black lol,... i even enquired about my filter to see if it could be that.... but its only a few months old, fluval u2... i was told to put it on b setting so its gentle.. when i looked in the tank today it looked as if the water had got dirtier... yet the filter is clearly working cos the plants are moving.... i could freaking scream | |

| Does the fluval have an areator attatchment . always use filters at max setting filter head should be just below water level so it agitates surface thus creating oxygen not(3-4inches below surface) it may be the filter is not big enough for ur tank i would only use a 2 on a 2foot tank. i always usedfluval but always went a size bigger than they recommend or keep the 2 and add a small box or sponge filter(i assume u have an air pump )as u need one to run these,u will see the filter wool change colour on these . i never used air stones etc in tanks they are only to agitate the water and if fluval working correctly they are not needed. plants give of oxygen during day but carbon monoxide during night but only cold water plants should be used in cold water aquarium. Reason for asking if tank had been resealed is that standard silicone would poision fish only aquarium sealent should be used on tank | |

| im glad you mentioned the seal kenny... i didnt want to say it first lol.... its exactly what i was thinking... cos if you clean around the seal areas it comes away slightly....
i havent an air pump... was told a fluval u2 and an air stone was enough...
i used to have the filter just above the water surface so it agitated the water... it looked quite powerful, then i changed to the middle setting a nice steady flow of water, as the assitants recommended ...

| Was it P.A.H ASSISTANT Shelley what runs ur air stone you had filter correct at begining it should look powerful it when the flow decreases u know filter is starting to block up when on mid setting it is not efficent enough if ur tank size is close to it max design. did not no if u bought tank new or 2nd hand thats why asked about reseal as only other thing we have not talked about if its coming away it may just be wear throu cleaning does not mean its not aquarium sealent | |

| oooh right.... it just seems strange that this tank has had nothing but problems... the tank was bought brand new last november... the pump thingy runs the air stone, why you ask .. yes it was a PAH assistant lol... but had the same sort of feed back from the aquatic centre at derby garden centre... i was told that the strong flow would be too much for the goldfish... they would all congregate at one end ... | |

| Are you just being to perfect with it hun?
I tend to mainly leave mine get on with itself, never bought water testing kits, and only change water with buckets left over night so never use chemicals, I always keep my tank under stocked as well, I am no way as careful as you, I feed sparenly and swill my fluval filters when they need it, I have now got live plants and am hoping that they thrive as it looks so much nicer.
I wonder if you have just taken to much advice hun as you said you had them before without any probs xxxx
