I know they may need her consent but under these circumstances you would think they would talk to you

Hi guys

It's been hectic

We saw the consultant ... She didn't have very good news for us, my mother had been passing blood which meant that the liver was failing and she probably wouldn't make it through the next week!! She was taken down for X-rays and an endoscopy and it turned out that she also had an ulcer which is where the bleeding and leaking toxins into her body was coming from, so they took care of that immediately and the outlook was a little brighter
But now she has pneumonia it's one thing after another!!!

Her outlook is the same, she may make it, she may not ...depends on my mum!!!

She called me a bastard last night and I had played a dirty rotten trick getting her in there

Apparently the anger is just another stage she will go through....I'm hoping it doesn't last, wait till she finds out she's coming to mine for a few weeks

I know she's desperate for a fag bless her, she's smoked for 50 years and this is the longest she's gone without one, so no wonder she's cranky! I'm going to have a word today to see if there's anything they can giver her for the craving

A bleeding ulcer is dreadful pain, your mom must of been in agony, its like having a mouse eating away at your insides when it bleeds, no wonder she was on the floor, honestly, for her to go through that is terrible.

is it pneumonia or water on her lungs from the liver

Coming to you   thats gonna be fun for both of you, especially as she thinks you conned her into the hospital.

With everything else she is going through you think they would do something about easing her cravings for a fag, prob be the first thing she asks you to buy her when she comes to stay with you, especially as she thinks you did the dirty getting her in there, but if the boot was on the other foot she would of wanted you in hospital to get help.

Well she is conscious now Shell, which is an improvement

Drastic turn of events

There's not much more that can be done for my mum, they are battling her lungs at the minute! The only problem is while they are battling and treating one thing...another problem is battling against them, so they treat that and then the other problem is against them....talk about swings and roundabouts!!
She is now on the highest oxygen the ward can give her, any higher and she would be in ICU but she won't be a viable candidate for there because once she gets to that stage there's not much chance, too many of her vital organs are affected, it would be cruel to keep her going!
The next 48 hours are crucial, if the oxygen doesn't work, they will try more antibiotics, if they don't work they will use what she described as a 'bleaching solution' that they will flush through her body ... If that doesn't work we have to make the decision on whether we want to stop all treatment and let her die peacefully, with drugs to ease her pain and discomfort .... A decision I don't want to be making

Im so sorry to hear this news Shelley
This is not sounding good at all
Is your mum awake and will she make the decision herself
Its such a terrible decision for someone else to make to take all treatment away except pain relief
I thought its one that they need to give to the patient to decide if possible rather than the family    all the rules and regulations they have to follow nowadays
Having sat and watched my mum pass without being able to do anything i know exactly how you must feel  try and stay strong
I am keeping  the treatment shes getting gives her more time but if she does take a turn for the worse just keep in mind that you have done all you can and managed to get her into hospital to get the care and pain relief she desperately needed
Im sure everyone reading this will be thinking of you today

You will be for quite a while Shelley

Were you with your mum when she passed
it doesnt really hit you properly for a few days    It just doesnt seem real
You will probably run on adrenaline for a few days while theres things to be sorted out

I didnt feel right for months after my mum died  its only the last few months ive felt myself again

I wish i could take your pain away

It seems the older we get, the challenges get harder, we may not be busy on here anymore but we are still here for each other, stronger than ever

I was with her till the end one of the most frightening experiences I've ever gone through and wouldn't want to do again

My brother came home last night, he wasn't there when mum died...he's like a lost boy bless him ...he can't believe it

I feel robbed tbh, she could of lived another 20years

Its a horrible experience to go through and it will play on your mind

Try not to remember her in that hospital bed but in happier times

Even although it was frightening you will be glad you stayed with her until the end  it will be a comfort to you knowing she wasnt alone    Your brother will probably feel bad he didnt get there and see her before she passed away
I really feel for you and your brother        Life is just so unfair
